Hi
I have a bit of a tricky one here. I have a VM that was originally a physical machine with a 500gb hdd. I used a P2V to convert the machine to HyperV and this is where the machine has been sat whirring away for the last 6 months. However, after HyperV failed us a few times and corrupted a few VMs and caused numerous headahces we decided to bite the bullet and stump up for VMware Vsphere5. So I migrated this VM and noticed that it's taking up 500GB of space on my datastore and only uses 19gb within the VM so there is a lot of wasted space.
I have ried numerous methods to try and shrink the volume to no avail, has anyone else had a similar situation and fixed it?
Things tried:
Change to thin provisioned during migration from HyperV to VMWare
Shrank the main disk from within windows on Hyper V, compacted and tried to migrate
Shrank the disk in the VM on the VMWare machine still cannot recover this space.
Windows backup and restore to a new VM
Any other options would be greatly recieved.
regards
Dean
