I haven't been able to install tools on any guest machines including Win 7, Server 2013, Server 2008, Ubuntu, and XP. The host machine recently had a reinstall of it's operating system which had vmware workstation working fine before, now everything works fine but the tools.
The message I get when trying to install VMware Tools is: Make sure that you are logged in to the guest operating system. If you do not see VMware Tools installing, press the Windows logo key + R. Then, enter D:\setup.exe (where D: is your virtual CD-ROM drive). When I do this, I get the Windows install disk. When I detach the Windows install (iso) then try it again, I get nothing as if the virtual cd-rom is empty.
The strange thing is I have VirtualBox as well on the host machine, it was working perfectly fine even after the reinstall of Win 7 but recently started acting up. I did check the firewall settings on Windows and my third party firewall - VMware has full access. A few things that shouldn't matter but might is the MBR wasn't cleaned off the drive before the reinstall, and the default location was changed to D: drive which is the same setup as before when VMware was working properly.
Thanks for any help!
