::UPDATE::
I changed my backup data store block size from 1mb to 2mb to match the source vm data store block size. Success the backup completed with out errors!! The vm was only 1 disk at 180 GB and the back up took a startling 645 minutes. The backup location is on a separate local disk on the same ESXi host connected via SATA, why is the back up taking so long? The vm I am backing up is a test XP pro machine with large movie data files and no other extra processes running. My concern is when I put this script into production backing up a win2k3 server running AD, SQL and DNS with equal or more data, How long is the back up going to take? Will there be performance issues with users while the back is in progress? Even if I can get the back time down why does it fail when going to a Qnap NFS share. Block size issues? I don't see anywhere to modify the block sizes on my Qnap NAS. I'd like to have the backed up vm's on a dependent disk from the ESXi. I am just a newbie trying to make sure the few business I support have a good back up\recovery plan. I am limited on what I can use due to the fact I am using the free ESXi license. Thank you LAMW for helping out the little guys, your script is nothing short that genius.
Any comments are greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Ryan
